Artistic passion manifests in all kinds of ways for all kinds of people. Some people paint, others write or play music. My name is Gem and my art is making delicious bagels! When I moved to Edmonton in 2013, no matter how hard I looked, I couldn’t find a bagel that really hit the spot. It became my passion to create out of this world bagels, right here in YEG!

A perfect bagel should have a soft crumb. It needs to have some chew to it, but it can’t be chewy. The flavour, it needs to pop on its own, but it can’t overpower the right spread or topping. After yet another bagel let-down, it occurred to me that I’ve always been a keen baker, so if I can’t find what I want, I should just make it myself.

That very day, I started experimenting, using friends and family as my test subjects, stuffing them full of different kinds of bagels, cream cheeses, seasonings, butters and more. Over and over, they would go mad for what I was coming up with. Asking me each week for more. I knew I was on to something, but friends and family are one thing. Paying customers, something entirely different.

I started putting my goods out into the world and found that the feedback from total strangers was as good, if not even better, than from my friends and family. That was the last little nudge I needed. Bagel Bar was born!

Now, I am so proud to say that we specialize in the most amazing boiled-before-baked bagels, delicious bialys, monster Chonk cookies, a whole line of unique cream cheeses, and other spreads and seasonings. It’s a thrill to bring my passion to you each and every day. I hope you enjoy it all as much as I do!
